FACTS ABOUT RADON
-
Radon, a colourless and odourless gas, naturally seeps into homes through cracks and openings in the foundation, regardless of location or climate.
-
The soil beneath homes is the main source of radon gas, which can accumulate indoors due to limited ventilation, posing health risks to occupants.
-
Home radon testing kits offer a simple and affordable way to monitor indoor radon levels regularly, enabling early detection and mitigation.
-
High indoor radon levels increase the risk of lung cancer as inhaling radon particles can damage lung tissue over time.
-
Mitigation measures such as sealing cracks and installing ventilation systems help reduce radon infiltration, safeguarding indoor air quality.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
-
Q. HOW MANY RADON DETECTORS DO I NEED FOR A RADON TEST IN MY HOME?A. It is recommended to purchase a radon test with two detectors for a standard house. Place one detector in the main living room and one in a ground-floor or first-floor bedroom, ideally the main bedroom. If you have a larger property or a basement, you can add extra detectors to ensure complete coverage for your radon test.
-
Q. IS MY PROPERTY AFFECTED BY RADON?A. Public Health England has produced an interactive map displaying areas of the UK with high radon levels. To use the map, click on the “show radon data” button and enter your postcode to determine if your area is affected.
-
Q. HOW TO PLACE RADON DETECTORS?A. While completing radon testing at your property, above all, it is important for you to live life normally so that you get accurate results. There is no need, however, to worry about whether the time of year you test will affect its results, as we use the UKHSA-validated formula to take into account the effect of the seasons on radon levels in your property. When you use the 3-Month Radon Test Kit in your home, it provides a whole-house annual average reading. If, however, it is used for workplaces, we give an annual average reading for each detector. This, therefore, gives you the most accurate readings and risk levels for your home or workplace.
